Okay, HP has been no help in this, so I'm going to pose this question to the community. (It's actually been asked numerous times in other places on the HP site, and no one bothers to answer it.) I have an HP 6005 Small Form Factor PC. It's running the Athlon II processor, ATI graphics, Realtek sound (All integrated) This unit has a displayport++ on the back. Php Serial Port Communication Linux Os more.

I supported these things at a prior job and loved them, so decided to buy one to use as my media center at home. Bought a displayport to HDMI adapter from wish.com (probably my first mistake---all crap there) Connected everything, including the adapter to my TV. Powered up the machine into a fresh Windows 7 Ultimate environment. Looks great on my TV.

Tested netflix and youtube. No sound through the TV. I tried updating the drivers for the graphics and audio card from HP. Didn't do anything. Tried disabling the onboard audio. Flagimation Seriale.

Still didn't work. There is all sorts of crap flying around about these machines. HP says it does support audio through the displayport, HP says it doesn't. I can't find a clear answer. Connecting an audio cable is not an option, because there is no place on the TV for an audio connection. It has to come from HDMI.

I'd rather not buy a video card so I can make this happen, but if I have to, I will. However, I bought this machine specifically because it had the displayport. I will eventually be installing FreeNas on this machine so I can use it for all of our home media. So, anyone have any experience with these machines? Anyone ever get audio to work out the displayport on them?

Display port does indeed do Audio, with a proper rollover converter to HDMI. I run a very near identical PC for my living room media server, including eventually running FreeNAS. I would recommend running a graphics card still.
