You might might MIGHT be able to get Turbosquid to do it for you. I've had them convert models I've purchased from them. If they do it, it probably wont be free. Another solution would to find a 3ds MAX user forum and ask somebody who owns the program to save it.

I'd recommend saving as both.fbx and.3ds from Max. If you can't trust handing the files over to a random person on a forum you might want to search local studios that use Max. I believe Lightborne in Cincinnati uses Max but not 100% sure on that.
