While searching for a way to create a system startup disk, many hits on how to.but cannot find a free ISO file to download. Microsoft does not seem to let you create a system startup(only) disk. I have had to 'buy' the disk i should have gotten with my PC. My system failed, i have no backup disks and i just want to backup my files before reinstalling OS.

The recovey program fails to complete. It gets into the copy file section then it fails too giving me a 'white screen'. Most difficult to even boot to the diagnosic screen. OR, is their a way to just repair the system boot to access the recovery program correctly? Thanks for your advice. Live CD (but I would suggest the DR Web Rescue CD as it is a smaller download that will get the job done) some people who are not up to learning new things prefer the familiar. Thanks for the info i will look into it BUT i have tried the Ubuntu livecd and it loaded but then the monitor on the troubled system began blinking aimlessly and then Ubuntu crashed from the CD run???

I had tried the livecd on a working system prior and it worked flawlessly so i believe something else is wrong with this system. We then inserted the mfg vista recovery disk to try that without backing up files to see if it would at least load up to the decision prompt to reinstall or recover or whatever. The vista system install disk ran for several minutes, installing some files and then it stopped working as well. System set up to boot from CD/DVD first. What could cause the monitor to flutter during cd boot of ubuntu after it is working then it crashes(freezes) then we cannot even restart the ubuntu cd boot afterwards.it begins to load, monitor flickering then stalls I am guessing a graphics boot/hard drive damaged/ or rom problem.

We have ran MS memory check and ubuntus memory check without problems-passing however when checking hard drive with ubuntu program failed. Any ideas from you guys would be great before we spend any money letting your peers examine the pc?
