To borrow a phrase from the writer James Wolcott, it's Christmas Nocturne - that pleasantly odd week between Christmas and New Years where a significant number of people aren't working and presumably have lots of time to listen to best of the year compilations. As usual, I tried to exclude any artist who had been on any of the best of compilations from the previous two years, but I couldn't resist including Father John's Misty Pure Comedy as the closing cut.
